Nora Shipp studies Milky Way stellar streams, the tidal remnants of globular clusters and dwarf galaxies, with the goal of learning about the local distribution and nature of dark matter and the formation and evolution of our Galaxy. Nora has worked on the discovery, analysis, and modeling of stellar streams as a member of the Dark Energy Survey (DES) and the Southern Stellar Stream Spectroscopic Survey (S5). In particular, as part of her PhD, Nora discovered a large population of stellar streams in the DES data and has contributed to the assembly of the first large population of 6D stellar streams, using photometric data from DES, proper motions from Gaia, and spectroscopic data from S5. She has modeled this population of streams to measure the mass of the Large Magellanic Cloud, and is looking forward to expanding upon this work, using this population of 6D stellar streams to study dark matter and galaxy formation in the Local Universe.

Nora obtained her ScB in Physics at Brown University, and her PhD in Astronomy & Astrophysics at the University of Chicago.
